Measles Outbreaks Explode in US: 1,168 US Cases Confirmed 

United States: Arizona health officials declare that four connected measles cases have actually been established in Navajo County, and this is the first outbreak in the state in 2019. 

The US recorded 122 additional measles cases last week, four in Texas, and the outbreaks in Pennsylvania and Michigan have been declared over.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said Friday there were 1,168 confirmed measles cases in the US. 

In Texas, where the largest outbreak in the country rampaged through the late winter and spring, health officials there said they would now report case totals only once a week – another indicator of the slackening outbreak, AP News reported. 

North America has three other major outbreaks. The longest, in Ontario, Canada, has led to 2,009 cases between mid-October and June 3. 

On Thursday, the province recorded its first death of a baby who contracted congenital measles but also had other preexisting conditions. 

In Alberta, Canada, there is another outbreak that has illnesses 761 by Thursday. 

And the Mexican state of Chihuahua has reported 1,940 cases of measles and four fatalities as of Friday, state health ministry data showed, AP News reported. 

Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, and Oklahoma are other US states with active outbreaks; the CDC defines an outbreak as three or more cases related to each other.
